Doctor Who has long had connections to Scotland, from Sylvester McCoy's performance as the Seventh Doctor to Ncuti Gatwa becoming the Fifteenth Doctor.
And with David Tennant returning to the show for a series of 60th anniversary specials, we decided to take a look back at some of the most prominent Scottish actors in Doctor Who.
From those who have taken on the role of the titular Doctor to companions and even guest stars, here are 18 Scottish actors who have appeared in Doctor Who.

9. Frazer Hines – Jamie McCrimmon
Now, Frazer Hines isn’t technically Scottish. However, his mother was from Port Glasgow and his accent as 18th century Highlander Jamie McCrimmon surely allows for his addition to this list. 10. Michael Sheard
Known to a generation of school children as Mr Bronson in Grange Hill, Michael Sheard was a Scottish character actor who was well known in the world of science fiction. As well as appearing as Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back, he has numerous Doctor Who credits. 12. Iain Glen – Octavian
Having starred in blockbusters such as Tomb Raider and Resident Evil as well as shows such as Game of Thrones, Doctor Who is another addition to Edinburgh-born Iain Glen’s filmography.
