From how the ‘Kingdom of Kubala’ arrived in Scotland to their eviction and beyond, here’s the full timeline of events following Kofi Offeh's deportation.

The leader of a self-styled “African tribe” has been deported from the UK months after setting up camp in the Scottish Borders.

Having crowned himself as King Atehene, Kofi Offeh set up camp with his wife Jean Gasho, 43, and Kaura Taylor in a wooded area near Jedburgh last year.

Calling themselves the “Kingdom of Kubala”, the women were labelled as as Queen Nandi and their “handmaiden” Asnat.

Led by the 36-year-old, the group camped out in Darnic Woods close to the Borders town which they claimed was land stolen from Offeh’s ancestors more than 400 years prior.

Over the course of their stay in Scotland, the group amassed a more than 100,000 followers on TikTok.

Here is the full timeline of events, from the how the Kingdom of Kubala arrived in Scotland, to the deportation of its leader.

How did the Kingdom of Kubala end up in Scotland?

Originally from Ghana and previously a businessman and opera singer, Offeh and the two women are said to have initially set up camp in the Borders in spring 2025.

They claimed that they were living on land which had been stolen from their ancestors hundreds of years before when “Queen Elizabeth I deported native black Jacobites”, according to the Independent.

The group also said that they were a “lost tribe of Hebrews” and that their King - Offeh - was “descended from David the Messiah”.

Gasho - who is from Zimbabwe - shared in a post on Facebook that they had arrived in Jedburgh with “nothing but a tent, a few clothing we came out with from prison and our shoes, oh and of course our Bluetooth speaker” on April 28.

Both lived in Stockton-on-Tees, prior to camping in the Scottish Borders. In July 2024, Offeh and Gasho appeared in court in Stockton where they were charged with child cruelty. A second woman was also arrested at the time, but bailed pending further investigation while Offeh and Gasho were remanded in custody.

All charges were eventually dropped.

In September it was discovered the “handmaiden” Asnat, was actually Kaura Taylor from Texas, whose family had reported her missing in May according to Sky News - only for her to be found in Scotland, where she had later joined the couple.

In a video from the group, she said: “To the UK authorities, obviously I am not missing. Leave me alone. I am an adult, not a helpless child.”

What happened to the Kingdom of Kubala?

During their time in Scotland, the Kingdom of Kubala faced a number of issues regarding their stay, including with locals, though they said their goal was to live a simple life.

While the trio may have insisted that they were reclaiming stolen land, the site where they initially lived actually belonged to Mary and David Palmer.

The landowners took the tribe to court in September 2025 to remove them “on the basis of no right to title”, and the warrant for their removal was issued by Sheriff Peter Paterson at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on September 12.

The civil action came after the group ignored previous eviction notices and “refused to engage with the council and legal proceedings” , with the group previously stating that they did not recognise the power of the courts.

“The creator of the heavens and the Earth is the one with us,” he said. “And we are not afraid of whatever the court – the so-called court – has granted.”

When asked if they would be moving else where, he said: “If the creator of the heavens and the Earth wants us to move from this land, he shall find us a place to go.”

The three members of the “tribe” were successfully evicted from the land on September 16 - but they didn’t go far.

When they were removed from the first location, the trio moved over a small fence, setting up a new camp just a few metres away from the previous site.

On that day, they refused to speak with members of the media, and said they would only talk to those who brought them gifts. On social media, they remained defiant sharing that “The Kingdom of Kubala can never be destroyed!”

Their newly chosen site was owned by the Scottish Borders Council, who began their own legal action to evict the group that same month.

The Kingdom of Kubala were ordered to vacate the land on the outskirts of Jedburgh by September 22 and also banned from returning.

Instead of doing this, they sat around a campfire singing songs with their full campsite still set up. Further requests for comment from the media were denied and Taylor once again stated that they would only speak if there were gifts brought for the “king”, Offeh.

Events then came to a head on October 2, 2025 when officers from Immigration Enforcement and Police Scotland were sent to the site to begin eviction proceedings at around 8am.

The tribe livestreamed the event for their tens of thousands of followers on TikTok. They could be seen being led into vans and away from the campsite.

Both Offeh and Taylor were arrested at the time, on suspicion of immigration offences, though it was later reported that Taylor was released.

The end of the kingdom: Kofi Offeh officially deported from the UK

After they were finally evicted from Jedburgh last year, Offeh, the so-called King Atehene, has now officially been deported from the UK.

Local media in Ghana filmed his arrival at Kotoko International Airport in Accra on April 22.

The UK Home Office have since confirmed the deportation.

Gasho, who continues to call herself “Queen In The North” continued to be outspoken on social media, though nothing has been shared since February.

She and Taylor still appeared to have be living together recently, based on social media posts.
