One of the biggest awards in British sport will be presented later this month - and some of the nominees have now been revealed.

It’s that time of the year again - as the BBC celebrate 12 months of sporting excellence.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award (or SPOTY) was first held in 1954 when around 14,500 voters decided to crown Christopher Chataway over fellowrunner Roger Bannister.

Since then the winners read like a roll call of British sporting greats, with the likes of Andy Murray, Mo Farah, Chris Hoy, Lewis Hamilton, Kelly Holmes and David Beckham all lifting the trophy.

Last year saw athlete Keely Hodgkinson take the main prize, while dart prodigy Luke Littler came runner-up and also claimed the Young SPOTY Award.

Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s event - with Littler in the runnning again.

When is Sports Personality of the Year 2025?

The ceremony will be held, and the winners announced, on Thursday, December 18, from 7-9pm.
