Jack Lowden and Emma Corrin star in first teaser trailer for Netflix's Pride and Prejudice

Jack Lowden is the first Scottish actor to play Mr Darcy on screen.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Pride and Prejudice online, giving fans their first look at the series starring Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden.

The six-episode adaptation, written by Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton, follows in the footsteps of the BBC’s 1995 miniseries and Joe Wright’s 2005 film and is due to be released later this year.

Corrin, who is best known for their role as Princess Diana in The Crown, will take over from Jennifer Ehle and Kiera Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet. Meanwhile, Scottish actor Lowden will provide a new take on Mr Darcy, who has previously been played by Colin Firth and Matthew MacFayden.

The teaser trailer - which was first in cinemas - shows Corrin sitting on a roof and gazing over the landscape with the sound of horses approaching. It is interspersed with a series of clips from the series, giving fans a glimpse of Lizzy reading a letter signed “Fitzwilliam Darcy”, her running through the countryside, Mr Darcy watching as a carriage pulls away and some intense looks shared between the couple as they dance.

We then get a proper look at Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy, who can be seen riding a horse and looking rather serious.

Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice to be released in 2026

While not shown, Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice is also set to star Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, with other cast members including Lowden’s fellow Scottish actor Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet, Jamie Demetrious as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Directed by Heartstopper’s Euros Lyn, he and Alderton assure fans that the new series will be a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, and that its goal is to introduce Pride and Prejudice to a new generation.

Alderton said: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it.

“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm.

“In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship, and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice.

“With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Pride and Prejudice will arrive on Netflix in 2026.
