Despite the hope it wouldn’t end in the same way it has done previously, Scotland’s dreams were once again shattered at the group stages following their 1-0 defeat to Hungary on Sunday.
Despite a 5-1 thrashing from tournament hosts Germany on opening night, Scott McTominay’s deflected goal in the 1-1 draw with Switzerland handed Steve Clarke’s side a glimmer of hope that they could make the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
However, it wasn’t to be and the Scotland team were sent heading home just days later following the loss to Hungary.
In the aftermath of their elimination, several pundits shared their thoughts on Scotland’s Euro 2024, with former Rangers, Celtic and Manchester United favourites giving fans their verdict.
Here are what 10 pundits have said about Scotland’s Euro 2024 exit - and what needs to happen next.

"I just wish we had gone at it. Looking at the players who came on and could make a difference, to wait until 75 minutes in a game of this magnitude to freshen things up is beyond belief. 'No regrets' was the theme in the build-up to these finals from the Scotland camp. You can be sure they will be leaving Germany with plenty of them." | Ross MacDonald - SNS Group Photo: Ross MacDonald - SNS Group

6. Kris Boyd
"We are still waiting for a team to get out the group stages. We didn't do enough to win against Hungary. We never created much. One thing Steve Clarke has to answer - I know people say it is negative, but I don't buy into that. There's more than one way to win a football match. If we opened up, you can get punished. We can dissect the game all you want, we didn't do enough. This was seen as a group we had a chance of getting out of. It was an opportunity. We failed again." | Ross MacDonald - SNS Group Photo: Ross MacDonald - SNS Group

"It almost looks like there might be one last hurrah for this group of players, which would be the World Cup. You need to decide whether you give it to Clarke or if he himself wants to take things any further. There can be a wider discussion about what should and shouldn’t have been done but Scotland had a right go in those extra 10 minutes. It looked as if anyone was going to score it was going to be Scotland." | Getty Images Photo: Getty

"We got what we deserved. We didn't do enough to win the game. People point to the penalty kick - I don't think it was a penalty. We didn't do enough in the whole tournament. We scored two own goals in the whole tournament. It is not good enough, if you don't score goals, you don't win games. Devastating for the Tartan Army. Clarke was too slow in making the changes. He will take a lot of the criticism." | SNS Group Paul Devlin Photo: SNS Group Paul Devlin
