The latest transfer stories in the aftermath of deadline day

The transfer window closed for another summer for Scottish clubs on Thursday at 5pm, bringing to an end months of speculation and gossip.

Celtic and Gineitis

Celtic are to monitor the progress of Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis after failing to land the Lithuanian internationalist.

Gineitis was a long-term target for Celtic but the Scottish champions were unable to get the deal over the line despite multiple attempts.

It is being claimed that Torino wanted £13 million for Gineitis and that Celtic chiefs were unwilling to meet the Serie A side’s valuation.

However, Celtic will keep tabs on the player, with a potential swoop to come in January. The club have strengthened their midfield options with the arrivals of Mika Baur, Oliver Sorensen and Joel van den Berg.

McInnes hails ‘quality’ arrival

Rangers manager Derek McInnes believes the Ibrox club have brought in real “quality” with the loan signing of winger Badredine Bouanani.

The Algerian wide man comes in on loan from Stuttgart, with Rangers holding an option to sign him permanently next summer. His arrival was the 14th new player to come in at Rangers and was announced more than two hours after the deadline.

“We are delighted to welcome Badredine to the club,” said McInnes. “He is an exciting young player who will add real quality, creativity and a different dimension to our attacking options.

“He is very good with the ball, a real threat in one-v-one situations and he has already gained experience in two of Europe’s top leagues.”

Hibs may swoop for striker

Hibs could strengthen their attacking options despite the window closing, with Easter Road chiefs exploring their striker options.

Former Liverpool hitman Danny Ings, who was last season at Sheffield United, is on the radar of Hibs chiefs as they ponder how to reinforce their frontline.

Hibs lost 3-1 against Hearts on Thursday night and would like to add experience to his front line.

The Hibees were active during the final day of the window, adding West Brom right-back Alex Williams on loan.
