It was tight, it was nervy, it was long as Israel and Scotland went the full two hours to decide who would move to within one game of the European Championships next year.
Eventually it was decided by Kenny McLean’s decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out that sent Scotland to Serbia for the final next month and kept the Euro dream alive.
Here’s how Steve Clarke’s players rated on the night.
Player ratings scale - 10: One of best performances you've seen. 9: Outstanding. 8: Very good. 7: Good. 6: Average. 5: Poor, 4: Very poor. 3: Terrible day at office. 2: Abysmal. 1: One of worst performances you've seen.
Threatened in bursts throughout, with bursts of his own, but looked happier when dropping deeper into the middle of the park in extra-time Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
Pulled out of the last squad to find fitness in a friendly - and found it. Ran his ankle socks off but without managing to test Ofir Marciano before being replaced by Lawrence Shankland. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
Scored on his last outing in Czech Republic but didn't ever look like repeating it here. Valuable as a target man to aim at when Scotland went long in the second half but not really given a sniff. Photo: Craig Williamson - SNS Group
