It was tight, it was nervy, it was long as Israel and Scotland went the full two hours to decide who would move to within one game of the European Championships next year.
Eventually it was decided by Kenny McLean’s decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out that sent Scotland to Serbia for the final next month and kept the Euro dream alive.
Here’s how Steve Clarke’s players rated on the night.
Player ratings scale - 10: One of best performances you've seen. 9: Outstanding. 8: Very good. 7: Good. 6: Average. 5: Poor, 4: Very poor. 3: Terrible day at office. 2: Abysmal. 1: One of worst performances you've seen.
Kept Hoffenheim frontman Dabbur quiet and two key interventions on the hour to keep Israel out. Least experienced of the team, but one of the most assured. Might not be a first pick yet, but he's in contention. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
Again being asked to play in defence which isn't his position but should have given Scotland the lead with a great leap to a great delivery and free header just before the break. Made amends in the shoot-out. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
Knitted the shape together in the first half sitting just in front of the defence and showed awareness and nous to break up the visitors' counter attacks. Subbed late on and only just back from injury Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
While Jack was cutting out counters, the Celtic midfielder was the man tracking to make blocks when the ball got behind the backline. A tidy enough shift defensively. Unlucky with an extra-time volley. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group / SFA
