As the clock ticks down to the Steve Clarke’s Scotland Euro 2024 squad announcement thoughts of which stars could make surprise inclusion are on the agenda for the Tartan Army.
Nathan Patterson and Aaron Hickey have already been ruled out, while Stuart Armstrong is a serious doubt for the tournament, which means a number of players could find themselves in contention for an unexpected call up. But could the Scotland head coach turn to some English-born stars in order to bolster his side?
Before opting to represent England, it was hoped Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon could be lured to play for Scotland while his Magpies team mate Elliot Anderson was called-up to Clarke’s squad before opting to drop out as he assessed his international options.
While not mentioned in this list due to their injury status, it is worth noting the trio of Matt Targett (Newcastle United), Lewis Florini (Charlton Athletic) and Ryan Fredericks (Bournemouth) are also available for Scotland selection, which may be something to watch in the future.
However, could any of these 9 English-born stars take a seat on Scotland’s plane to Euro 2024?

5. Archie Gray - Leeds United
Son and grandson of two former Scotland internationals, there's hope Gray will follow in the footsteps of the duo. However, the highly-rated 17-year-old appears to be chasing a career with England. Already capped at under-18 and under-20 level with the Three Lions and tipped to go to the very top of the game, it could be hard to convince him to switch. | Getty Images

6. Luis Binks - Coventry City
Currently on loan at English Championship side Coventry City, the full-back is a team mate of Scotland international Lewis Ferguson at Bologna in Italy. Formerly part of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, the 22-year-old has represented both England and Scotland at youth level and qualifies for the Tartan Army via his Dunbar-born maternal grandfather. | Jess Hornby Photo: Jess Hornby

7. Karlan Grant - Cardiff City
The striker cost the West Bromwich Albion a reported £15million fee back in 2020 when he joined them during their last stint in the English Premier League. He has since joined English Championship side Cardiff City on loan and has six goals this season. Eligible for Scotland via his Scottish mother. 8. Harrison Ashby - Swansea City
On loan at Swansea City from Newcastle United, the young right-back has been tipped for a big future. Born in Milton Keynes, Ashby has already represented Scotland at under-17, 19 and 21 level and is eligible for the country via his Scottish grandparents. Currently out with a muscle injury, there is hope he would be fit in time for the Euros - though it is unlikely he would be selected.
