Scotland’s men haven’t been to the World Cup since playing Morocco in France 1998. Just 180 minutes – plus penalties and extra-time if necessary – are now between Steve Clarke’s side and ending an an absence of almost a quarter of a century.

Scotland or Ukraine will progress through this evening’s play-off semi-final to face Wales, who overcame Austria in March and have awaited the winners of this delayed semi-final – postponed due to the conflict in Ukraine and ongoing Russian invasion. The winner on Sunday will head to the gulf state later this year and join in Group B with England, Iran and Team USA.

Pre-match it was an emotional scene for Ukraine as they lined up for the anthems, joined by many of the sold-out Hampden crowd.

Craig Gordon is the only thing that’s working and if he wasn’t working then this game would already be over. Ukraine are streets ahead of this Scotland performance.

This hasn’t been a thing with Steve Clarke in previous games, they all knew their jobs and exactly what they were doing - they’re hesitant tonight. They’re being dragged bout all over the place, they’re losing their shape and I think he needs to change.

Back underway at Hampden

Kick off for the second half.

Ryan Christie - goalscorer the last time Scotland played (and won) a play-off - is on. Lyndon Dykes was kept in the dressing room and substituted at half-time.

Is that it for Scotland’s World Cup hopes?

A header from Yaremchuk early in the second half catches Scotland napping - he beats Scott McTominay in the air and beats Craig Gordon in front of the 4000 Ukraine fans in the corner of Hampden.

Ukraine creatign wave after wave of attacks.

Scotland defending, clearing, doing what they can to get the ball away but the ball being returned constantly.

The first half was a poor start and it’s been more of the same at the start to the second half.

56 - Chance Scotland

There’s been so little for Ukraine’s goalkeeper to do and Georgiy Bushchan almost creates something from a backpass. He fires the kick-out off the on-riushing Callum McGregor, but even the riccochet isn’t falling for Scotland and it sails out for a goal kick.
