It’s the penultimate Scotland World Cup qualifier at Hampden ahead of the Qatar 2022 extravaganza next year, and it’s familiar opponents in the National Stadium's away dressing room – Israel.

Steve Clarke’s side put themselves in the driving seat with an incredible win over Austria in the last tranche of fixtures, now it’s a case of accelerating towards Qatar and the playoffs, preferably with a win over their familiar foes before a trip to the Faroe Islands next week.

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports, on the Football channel (ch. 403) and coverage begins at 4pm. That means the game is also available to stream online via NOW TV or the Sky Go app.

How good are Israel?

Israel are ranked 80th in the world – a move up of five places from their ranking last month – but that’s still 35 places lower than Scotland who are 45th in the global league table, up four places in the past month.

Scotland are on an upward curve after two wins from the last three qualifiers, but so are Israel after a stunning result where they hammered Austria 5-2… only to be brought back to earth with a humbling 5-0 defeat to Denmark.

What were the scores when Scotland played Israel before?

You mean you can’t remember? To be fair, there have been a few in quick succession. Until 2018 the teams had only met three times, but since then they’ve followed a well-trodden path between the countries in various competitions.

They’ve met six times in three years and this will be the seventh in recent times. The last game was a 1-1 away draw in March and Israel have yet to win at Hampden. They’ve twice conceded three goals in Mount Florida and even lost on penalties in the Nations League semi-final.
