Scottish transfer deadline day LIVE: Celtic complete signing and new hand deal to star, Rangers set for windfall, Hearts land striker, Hibs wait for signings

Transfer deadline day is upon us which means clubs up and down the country face a race against time to finalise their squads for the season ahead.

A flurry of activity is expected across the Scottish Premiership with incomings and outgoings possible at Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and others – but they only have until midnight tonight to get the deals pushed through.

Rangers resolve could be tested with reports of a £10m move from French club Nice for midfielder Glen Kamara, while there is uncertainty surrounds the future of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, who are in the final year of their contracts.

There is also the possibility of incomings at Ibrox, while Celtic are expected to make a deadline day move for Rubin Kazan holding midfielder Oliver Abildgaard, a Danish international, as well as St Mirren youngster Dylan Reid.

Mikey Johnston and James McCarthy could be on their way out of Celtic Park.

Ross Barkley latest

Ross Barkley is looking for a new club following his release from Chelsea.

The 33-times capped England midfielder has been linked with both Celtic and Rangers in recent weeks, with several English clubs also said to be in the frame.

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are now the front-runners for the 28-year-old’s signature although any deal does not have to be concluded before the transfer deadline as Barkley is a free agent.

Celtic target ‘arrives in Glasgow'

Oliver Abildgaard has arrived in Glasgow to seal a loan move to Celtic, according to a report.

The Rubin Kazan midfielder is set to join former team-mates Carl Starfelt and Saed Haskabonovic at Parkhead.

According to Football Scotland, the 26-year-old Danish international will join on an initial loan move, with the possiblity of an option to buy clause unknown as things stand.

Ayr sign Villa youngster

Ayr United have confirmed the loan signing of 19-year-old striker Brad Young from Aston Villa until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Queens sign Dobbie recommendation

Queen of the South have signed forward Ewan Bange from Blackpool until January.

The 20-year-old was recommended to the Dumfries side by club legend Stephen Dobbie, who is now Senior Professional Development Phase Coach at Blackpool since retiring from playing.

QotS manager Wullie Gibson said: ”I speak to ‘Dobs’ regularly and [he] recommended young Ewan. He speaks very highly of him and he certainly couldn’t have a better mentor for a young forward!”

Celtic’s deadline day move for St Mirren youngster Dylan Reid has been called off after the clubs failed to agree terms.

Celtic reopened talks in recent days having targeted the midfielder earlier in the window, but according to reports, the deal has now collapsed.

Man Utd sign Anthony

Manchester United have completed the first big transfer deadline day move in England after confirming the signing of Ajax winger Anthony for a whopping £86million.

The 22-year-old has signed a contract until 2027, with the option of an additional year, and is in line to make his home debut in Sunday’s clash with Arsenal.

Antony will reunite with former Ajax boss Erik Ten Haag at Old Trafford.

“This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world,” Antony said.

Ajax losing their star man is a boost for Rangers, who are due to kick-off the Champions League group stages against the Dutch champions in Amsterdam next Wednesday.

McKirdy to Hibs deal imminent

Hibs are expected to announce the signing of Harry McKirdy well before tonight’s transfer deadline.

The Swindon Town striker is in Edinburgh to complete his medical and sign the paperwork ahead of a move after a transfer fee and personal terms were agreed.

Hibs move for a defender is likely to go closer to the wire with a loan move for 20-year-old Southampton centre-back Dynel Simeu, a former England youth internationalist, believed to be on the cards.

Celtic ‘agree deal’ for Dane

Celtic’s move for Rubin Kazan midfielder Oliver Abildgaard is very much on with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming that the transfer will go through ahead of tonight’s deadline.

He tweeted: “Celtic are now set to sign Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard. Deal in place, agreement has been reached now waiting to sign contracts.”

Abildgaard commanded a £1.8million transfer fee when he moved from Aalborg BK to Rubin Kazan in 2019 and has been capped once by Denmark.

Hibs linked with trio

The morning is still young, but three players have already been linked with making a deadline day move to Hibs.

According to reports, striker Harry McKirdy is in Edinburgh for a medical ahead of completing a move from Swindon Town.

Hibs have also been credited with interest in loaning Manchester United midfielder Ethan Galbraith, a 21-year-old Northern Ireland international who spent time on loan at Doncaster Rovers last season.

Southampton centre-back Dynel Simeu, a former England youth internationalist, has also been tipped to join the Easter Road side on loan as manager Lee Johnson looks to bolster his defence.

Hearts want Aberdeen and Celtic duo

Hearts have made their first moves of transfer deadline day after making an approach for Aberdeen striker Christian Ramirez and Celtic winger Mikey Johnston.

The Tynecastle side are keen to take both players on loan as they look to bolster their attack following the news Liam Boyce faces up to nine months out injured, however, they face a fight to get both deals over the line.
