Gallery finds ‘lost’ works

NINE paintings which went missing from the Scottish National Portrait Gallery during a revamp have been found.

The paintings had gone astray at the start of the year during the £17.6 million refit, with the National Galleries Scotland admitting they could not trace the works.

The locations had either been incorrectly recorded on its database, or were out-of-date. However, the nine paintings have now been located in storage.

A spokeswoman said: After 118,646 items were removed from the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in order for the refurbishment to take place in 2009, it was reported in March 2011 that nine items had inaccurate location information.

“As anticipated, we have since been able to update our records accurately on retrieving all of the works from storage.”
