UK Government confirms deportation action against Daniel Maka

The UK Government has confirmed it is progressing deportation action against convicted criminal Daniel Maka, who was convicted of stealing from a Barrhead care home, following questioning by East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton.

Daniel Maka broke into the Millview Care Home in Barrhead on Boxing Day in 2016 and stole Christmas gifts from a then 83-year-old dementia suffer.

Upon the police catching up with Daniel Maka he struggled with them and spat on a female police officer.

Mr Masterton also raised the broader question of whether Daniel Maka had previous convictions in his native Poland and has sought an update on the progress of deportation action against the now convicted criminal.

Commenting Paul Masterton MP said: “I welcome that the UK Government is progressing the removal of Daniel Maka from the country following his despicable crime.

“It is unfortunate that we cannot have confirmation about his previous convictions, especially given previous newspaper reports of nearly a decade spent in prison – in his native Poland – for a series of robberies.

“Scotland is a welcoming nation for immigrants who add to our communities but we must ensure there are robust procedures in place to protect residents in Barrhead and across East Renfrewshire from that small minority like Daniel Maka who don’t want to play by the rules.”
