Two brothers were jailed for life for carrying out an axe murder in broad daylight killing a gardener as he went about his job - accompanied by a 14-year-old schoolboy.

Daniel McGuigan, known as Zippy, 35, was working with colleagues when he was pounced upon by two brothers he had bad relations with.

David Sharp, 39, and John Brookhouse, 35, were accompanied by a teenager as they inflicted a horror attack on Mr McGuigan in the middle of a street in Castlemilk, Glasgow, on May 24 2019.

Mr McGuigan, who was engaged to be married in October this year, died in a pool of blood having been stabbed three times and struck with an axe 'two or three times'.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, struck him with a plank of wood he picked up on the way to the attack, which he was not involved in planning.

The murderous brothers had plotted the attack as they watched Mr McGuigan from inside a house.

The fatal stab wound penetrated his heart - and was so forceful it caused the knife to break.

Sharp carried out the knife attack while Brookhouse wielded an axe, in front of horrified passersby who saw the dying man screaming and attempting to run for help before he collapsed.

He was pronounced dead at 11.30am.

Both siblings pleaded guilty to murder at the High Court in Glasgow on Valentine's Day, while the child admitted a charge of culpable homicide.

Sentencing, Judge Lady Scott told the brothers: "On the day in question the deceased was working in his job carrying out garden maintenance.

"He was seen by you Mr Brookhouse and you told your brother Mr Sharp.

"Immediately the pair of you agreed to attack the deceased and you both left the house with that purpose, with you Mr Sharp armed with a knife and you Mr Brookhouse armed

with an axe.

"You saw the deceased standing in the street and you both ran at him and attacked him.
