Kenmure Street LIVE: Glasgow residents gather to block UK Border Agency allegedly attempting to deport neighbours

Crowds of locals have gathered to stop a neighbour from being taken away for alleged deportation.

The crowds have gathered on Kenmure Street, with many surrounding the van holding their neighbour, and one person lying underneath it to stop it leaving.

Kenmure Street protest RECAP: Police release two men detained by immigration officials

Comment from Police Scotland:

“Around 9.55 am this morning, Thursday, 13 May, 2021, police were called to an address in Kenmure Street, Pollokshields, following a protest by a large group of people.

“The call was made by UK Immigration Enforcement (UKIE) after a group of protesters gathered at the address where UKIE staff were in attendance. Police Scotland does not assist in the removal of asylum seekers.  Officers are at the scene to police the protest and to ensure public safety.”

The First Minister has spoken out as crowds gather on a Glasgow street to protest the alleged attempted deportation of their neighbour.

A cheer has just gone up for the man under the van, preventing it from moving.

First Minister commented:

Pinar Aksu, Human Rights Campaigner now leading the chant.

“To see this is horrifying and we want to see what is police Scotland involvement in this...”

Mohammad Asif from Afghan Human Rights Foundation is speaking at the protest:

“I don’t blame the police they are doing a dirty job for a dirty state...

“Don’t give up the fight...we will not let these guys be taken away by a brutal state.

“If you don’t stand up to them today trust me the police will come after you the next day.”
