A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged following Celtic Park protest

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged by police in connection with disorder related offences following a protest outside Celtic Park last Sunday.

The protest last Sunday left three officers injured

The man in question was released on an undertaking and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Sunday November 29, three police officers were left injured when fans protested outside the stadium following a 2-0 defeat to Ross County in the Scottish League Cup.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with disorder related offences on Thursday following the protests last Sunday. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s Justice Secretary described the scenes as "utterly disgraceful" adding: "Officers have been front and centre keeping us safe during this pandemic, to treat them this way at any time is shameful.”

"To do it during these times is a disgrace."

Celtic FC released a statement saying that they would be “investigating these events fully” adding "there can be no excuse for some of the violent scenes at Celtic Park.

Police are aware of a planned protest to take place at Celtic Park on Sunday December 6 but have discouraged it to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, Greater Glasgow Division, said: “Officers will continue to police these types of event using the 4Es approach of engaging with those taking part and explaining the restrictions in place to save lives.

“Our response will be measured and appropriate but we will use enforcement where required."
