With less than 10 weeks until Christmas, the Dogs Trust is on a mission to find the dogs in its care the one gift they all want – a home for life.
The charity is been under great pressure this year received over 32,000 handover enquiries so far from owners no longer able to care for their dogs. Thankfully, in 2024 so far, the charity has also found new homes for more than 6,000 dogs.
Tthe Dogs Trust penned the famous phrase “A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas” back in 1978, and they are looking for people to share their Christman and their life with a pooch this festive season.
Susan Tonner, Rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust West Calder, just outside Edinburgh says: “Christmas is fast approaching, and we are hoping to find forever homes for as many dogs as possible ahead of the festive season. While the DogsTrust team will make sure that the dogs in our care over Christmas are well looked after, with festive treats and gifts galore, we all know there’s nowhere quite like home. We are certain that there is a fantastic forever home for each and every one of ourdogs, and we’d like to see as many as possible settled in their new happy places ahead of Christmas.”

They’ll then look at how closely your lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and, if you’re a great fit for your selected animal, they’ll invite you to meet your prospective up.
They may also organise a home check to make sure it’s suitable for your new family member.
You can also pop into the rehoming centre before submitting the application to see the dogs beforehand.

5. Harry
Harry is a 10-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Happy Harry is the sweetest boy who loves life! He is a friendly lad who wants to get a cuddle from everyone he meets. Harry is looking for a calm new home with children aged 14 and above where he can rest his paws and enjoy his golden years. He would love to have a sizable garden where he can potter around and play with his new family, if he is not resting or chilling you can usually find him playing with his squeaky monkey! Harry is uncomfortable around other dogs and would like to be the only pet in the home. Harry finds walks stressful and at his age he would be happy and content running and playing in his own garden, the garden is is happy place where he feels safe and secure. 6. Chips
Chips is lovely 1-Year-Old American Pocket Bulldog. Chips can be worried by new people that he has not met and is looking for an understanding quiet home with children aged 16-Years-Old and above. He would like to have access to his own garden where he can explore and play with his family. Chips is happy to travel in the car for short journeys and would like a home with no other pets. He is happy to walk with other dogs when out and about, however is not bothered about making lots of doggy friends. Perdue is a sweet 4-year-old Cockapoo. She is a gentle girl who can live with children aged 10-years-old and above and would like to be the only pet in the home. She is a friendly girl who loves being around her family to get lots of love and affection. | Dogs Trust

Pepper is a 5 year old French Bulldog. Pepper is a beautiful girl who takes time to build trust with new people, she is looking for a quiet adult only home and to be the only pet in the house. Pepper loves to play and is usually seen either running around with her football in her mouth or you can hear the squeaks from her chomping on her favourite pig. Pepper completely adores her favourite person Liv, she loves to give and receive cuddles from Liv and thinks nothing about sitting on her knee in prime spot for an ear tickle or a tummy rub. Although Pepper is comfortable and loves Liv dearly, this relationship took a long time to build and to gain trust.
