Overseas buyers rush for whisky-themed craft beer

A new range of craft beers aged in whisky barrels has secured a raft of orders from overseas customers.

The beers have been produced under a tie-up between the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland – set up in 2014 by wholesaler JW Filshill to promote Scottish craft beers – and brewer Williams Brothers of Alloa.

They have been aged in barrels from four whisky regions – Speyside, Highland, Lowland and Islay – and orders have already been placed by customers in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore.

Chris Miller, who used to head up Harviestoun Brewery in Alva before becoming a director at the Craft Beer Clan, said: “These beers show off Scotland’s regional whisky variations, the variety and depth of beer styles plus the brewing excellence of Scotland’s craft brewers.”

Some 80 per cent of the first batch of beers produced will be exported to overseas markets.
