The most popular metal festival in the UK is just hours away from confirming which acts will headline the festival in 2024 and anticipation is high!
Following on from this summer's mammoth four day special edition that saw thrash icon Metallica play not one but TWO headline sets, the rumours of who will top the bill at Donington next year, with rumours of Queens Of The Stone Age, Iron Maiden, Rammstein and Fall Out Boy have swirling around for a number of weeks now.
But who could realistically headline the festival this year? We look at 10 bands that could potentially be announced as the headline act ahead of next week's announcement.

5. Deftones
There's no tour dates and no album since 2020 'Ohms' but Deftones could feasibly headline Download Festival with their astonishing back catalogue and devoted fanbase.
Their no strangers to a headline set at a big festival and their name and presence in the metal community means a Download Festival set would be welcomed. There's no UK tour dates - or many anywhere to be honest - set a triumphant return to the festival could be on the horizon?
This one would be a surprise, but it is possible. One of the best live bands on the planet, Paramore have really been seen as metal and are borderline more of a Reading/Leeds headliner. However, if Biffy can headline there's no reason Hayley Williams and co. can't in reality.
They're just off the back of a massive world tour so it would seem unlikely. But they are one of the biggest glam rock bands ever and have a fan base that could command a potential headline slot.
