It’s one of the most eagerly-anticipated films of the year - and James Gunn’s new version of Superman looks like being both a commercial and critical hit.
It sees David Corenswet take on one of cinema’s most iconic roles, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Louis Lance and Nicholas Holt starring as Lex Luthor, whose devious schemes Superman must battle against (and there are plenty of them).
We’re also introduced to Krypto the Superdog, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Michael Holt as Mister Terrific. For those who have yet to see it there are other spoilery additions we will avoid mentioning.
It’s the latest chapter of the cinematic adventures of the superhero who first appeared in the comic book Action Comics # 1, published in 1938.

9. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Henry Cavill's second outing as the superhero was opposite Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'. It sees Lex Luthor hatch a plot to use Batman to kill the Man of Steel and is the first film to feature both DC heroes. | Contributed

10. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)
'Superman IV: The Quest for Peace' was the last of the superhero films to star Christopher Reeve (and the last to feature Margot Kidder as Louis Lane and Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor). It sees Superman attempt to rid the world of nuclear weapons while taking on Lex Luthors latest creation - a rival superbeing called Nulclear Man. Dogged by problems throughout the writing process and suffering a belatedly-slashed budget, it's a celluloid disaster with a rotten rating of just 14 per cent. | Contributed

11. Superman and the Mole Men (1951)
Following two film serials, which saw chapters of a story screened in cinemas on a weekly basis, 1951's 'Superman and the Mole Men' was the first feature film to follow the adventure of the superhero. Starring George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane, it sees the pair travel to a small American town where oil drilling has disturbed the home of a subterranean home of a race of small bald humanoids. It doesn't have an official Rotten Tomatoes rating as there are not enough reviews. It does, however, have a decent audience rating of 80 per cent. | Contributed
