It’s one of the most eagerly-anticipated films of the year - and James Gunn’s new version of Superman looks like being both a commercial and critical hit.
It sees David Corenswet take on one of cinema’s most iconic roles, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Louis Lance and Nicholas Holt starring as Lex Luthor, whose devious schemes Superman must battle against (and there are plenty of them).
We’re also introduced to Krypto the Superdog, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Michael Holt as Mister Terrific. For those who have yet to see it there are other spoilery additions we will avoid mentioning.
It’s the latest chapter of the cinematic adventures of the superhero who first appeared in the comic book Action Comics # 1, published in 1938.

5. Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Here's where things get complicated - 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' is a director's cut of the 2017 film 'Justice League'. Snyder stepped down as director in post production, with Joss Whedon taking over and changingt he film dramatically from Snyder's original vision. This four hour version corrects that injustice and was surprisingly well received, with a Tomatometer rating of 71 per cent (the audience rating is a huge 92 percent). The film sees a whole team of superheroes, led by Superman, Batman and Wonderwoman battle Steppenwolf and his world-invading army of Parademons. It seems Henry Cavill make another appearance as Superman. | Contributed

6. Man of Steel (2013)
Zach Snyder was hired to reboot the entire franchaise for 2013's 'Man of Steel', which saw Henry Cavill don the cape for the first time. It sees Clark Kent learn about his powers for the first time, assuming the role of mankind's protector against the evil General Zog (Michael Shannon) and falling in love with Louis Lane (Amy Adams). It has a not-disasterous Tomatometer rating of 57 per cent. | Contributed

7. Justice League (2017)
The original cinematic release of 'Justice League', before Zach Snyder stepped in with his much-improved cut, was largely derided by critics and fans alike. It has a less-than-super rating of 39 per cent. | Contributed

8. Superman III (1983)
After the triumph of the first two entries in the original film series, Richard Lester bafflingly decided to play it for laughs for the third - drafting in megastar comedian Richard Pryor to provide the chuckled. Once again starring Christopher Reeve, it sees Superman battles a corrupt businessman (Robert Vaughn) who has constructed a powerful supercomputer to kill him. It has a rating of just 31 per cent. | Contributed
