A new series based on the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by Ian Rankin arrives on the BBC this week.
Simply entitled Rebus, it sees Outlander’s Richard Rankin take on the role of the troubled jazz-loving loner who is a genius when it comes to solving crime.
It also features Brian Ferguson (The Ipcress File, Spanish Princess) as John’s brother, Michael, and Lucie Shorthouse (Line of Duty, Ten Percent) as Rebus’s investigation partner, Detective Constable Siobhan Clarke.
But one of the biggest stars of the series is the city it’s set in - Edinburgh.
Scotland’s Capital was used to film the majority of the action, with a few locations in Glasgow also used (Byres Road in the city’s West End apparently features).
Here are the places you’ll be seeing on your television screen - and some other locations in the city important to Rebus.

9. Raeburn Place
The trendy neighbourhood of Stockbridge - with its main shopping street Raeburn Place regularly appears in Ian Rankin's crime novels. In The Falls it's the location of a chase scene as Rebus pursues retured forensic pathologist Donald Devlin throught he streets of Stockbridge before they fall into the Water of Leith.
10. Dean Village
The pretty Dean Village is one of Edinburgh's hidden gems. Situated just five minutes away from Princes Street it's an oasis of calm in the middle of the city with pretty buildings overlooking the Water of Leith. In the books it's where Rebus dreams of living.
