It’s getting to that time of year where the nights are getting longer and the urge to stay curled up in front of the TV is increasing.
The looming darkness also means that Halloween is fast approaching, something which will inspire both horror and non-horror fans alike to pick a scary film to watch. While there are near endless options across various platforms, Disney Plus is home to an excellent selection of horror movies these days.
From classics such as Alien and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, to some of the best horror releases of the last decade such as Get Out, the streaming service has an extensive library to choose from.

5. Predator (1987)
Released almost a decade later is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sci-fi action horror, Predator. Also a classic, the John McTiernan directed film follows Schwarzenegger’s paramilitary leader Dutch as he and his team set out to rescue a group of hostages in Central America, where they soon discover they are the target of an extraterrestrial warrior. Also with several sequels and prequels, many of which are available to stream on Disney Plus, there are also two crossovers between this franchise and Alien. | 20th Century Fox

6. Fresh (2022)
For a more updated horror experience, 2022 film Fresh is the perfect choice. Directed by Mimi Cave, this film is about one of the scariest aspects of modern life: dating. Daisy Edgar Jones stars as Noa who decides to give Steve (Sebastian Stan), a man she meets at the supermarket, a chance after rotten luck on dating apps. However their meat-cute — sorry, meet-cute — soon turns sour when it becomes clear that he has some unusual tastes. Upsetting and compelling in equal measure, it’s not one to miss. | Searchlight Pictures / 20th Century Studios

7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Disney Plus is also home to another stone-cold classic: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Released in 1975, this horror comedy is a tribute to B movies with an excellent soundtrack and cast including Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and the late Tim Curry. The story centres on Brad and Janet, a young engaged couple who end up stranded on a stormy night, seeking shelter in a nearby castle which belongs to eccentric transvestite, Frank-N-Furter. 8. Ready or Not (2019)
If you’re after more horror comedy, there is always Ready or Not. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the 2019 film stars Samara Weaving — who has one of the best screams in modern horror — as newlywed Grace, whose wealthy new in-laws insist on her participating in a seemingly innocent game the night of her wedding. It’s great as a standalone, but if you can’t get enough 2026 sequel Ready or Not 2: Here I Come featuring Weaving alongside Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood is also streaming on Disney Plus. | Eric Zachanowich / Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
