9. Cassie Workman: Aberdeen
"And there is a miracle at work. Out of something bleak, hopeless and irreversible Workman has created a thing of beauty." Claire Smith on Cassie Workman: Aberdeen (Just the Tonic Nucleus (Venue 393), until 28 August (not 15, 22)). Photo: Contributed

10. Manic Street Creature
"It's an engrossing piece filled with evocative, appropriate songs, but where Memon’s play feels really fresh and new is in its honest, tender and unconventional take on subjects surrounding mental illness, particularly the toll which loving someone with mental health issues can exact." David Pollock on Manic Street Creature (Summerhall, Until 28 August (not 16, 23)) Photo: Contributed

11. Looking for Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood
"Wood’s best remembered numbers are delivered with relish and a wicked glint, from paeans to chippies and shopping to innovative uses of the Woman’s Weekly. There are more plaintive and contemplative pieces too, arcing from adolescent crushes to solitary bereavement." Ben Walters on Looking for Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood (Assembly Rooms (Drawing Room) (Venue 20) until 28 August). Photo: Contributed

12. Receptionists
"Watching the well-known world of customer service get joyously shattered by the ever-expressive, endlessly destructive Inga Björn and Kristina Tammisalo – like a Finnish female Laurel and Hardy – is a shot of Espresso for anyone who’s been trapped in the office for too long." Sally Stott on Receptionists (Summerhall (Venue 26), until 28 August. Photo: Contributed
