5. Age is a Feeling
"There are a few unnecessary gimmicks in Adam Brace’s direction, but this is a superb performance and a sensitive, smartly structured piece of writing, full of wit and an astonishing amount of wisdom from someone who’s only 36 years old." Fergus Morgan on Age is a Feeling (Summerhall, until 28 August). Photo: Contributed

6. Boris the Third
"Meggido’s skilfully written script has the sharp structure of an on-stage/off-stage theatrical-turned-bedroom farce, filled with slapstick comedy slickly delivered by the ensemble cast, but also references to Brexit, 1980s pop culture and the unequal social structures that exist both in the play’s subtext and still in the world outside today." Sally Stott on Boris the Third (Pleasance Courtyard, until 29 August). Photo: Contributed

7. Godot is a Woman
"I really hope that members of Beckett estate get to see it, as I honestly can’t think of anyone else who would be likely to enjoy it more." Sally Stott on Godot is a Woman (Pleasance Dome, until 28 August). Photo: Contributed

8. Ruckus
"Jenna Fincken’s one-woman play about coercive control – from theatre company Wildcard, who created the 2019 hit Electrolyte – beautifully balances on the edge of uncomfortable" Susan Mansfield on Ruckus (Summerhall (Venue 26), until 28 August (not 22)). Photo: Contributed
