Scottish Fashion Awards announces 2012 nominees

THE Scottish Fashion Awards has announced its list of nominees for the 2012 ceremony, to be presented by Alexa Chung in Glasgow on 11 June.

The big names in Scottish fashion are all present and correct, with their inclusion thanks to their presence on the international fashion stage no less pleasing than it is predictable. Editors’ favourites Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders, Holly Fulton and Louise Gray are all nominated in the Scottish Designer of the Year category, alongside Sonia Rykiel’s right-hand-woman April Crichton and menswear label Duchamp’s Gianni Colarossi.

Most likely to succeed in the Model of the Year category are Tali Lennox, who meets the Scottish criteria courtesy of mother Annie Lennox; and Amanda Hendrick, who with appearances for Mary Katrantzou, Jean Paul Gaultier, Holly Fulton and Balenciaga is currently Scotland’s highest profile runway representative working internationally. Hendrick made headlines last year when a campaign she shot for former boyfriend Olly Sykes’ Drop Dead Clothing label, was banned by the Advertising Standards Agency for being “socially irresponsible” over concerns about Hendrick’s extremely thin appearance. Tara Nowy, currently working in Dubai for clients including Estée Lauder, is another one to watch.

Jonathan Daniel Pryce, co-founder of the longstanding street style blog Les Garçons de Glasgow, graduates from blogger to photographer, having been nominated in his previous role for Communicator of the Year in 2011. Also in the photography category is Philip Stanley Dickson, whose strides into fashion photography over the last year are recognised.

Other notable nominees include young duo Obscure Couture whose designs gained maximum exposure when they were worn by X Factor contestants Amelia Lily and Little Mix last year; and fashion editor Laura Craik, who last year left The Evening Standard to take the reins at The Times.
