Shinty: Winning mentality key at Newtonmore

Newtonmore marksman John MacKenzie believes that Saturday’s comeback against Fort William shows the winning spirit that has been fine-tuned at the champions.

Thanks to an 89th-minute strike by the skilful forward, the holders managed to come from behind to take the Co-operative MacTavish Cup tie into extra-time at 3-3.

A further Danny MacRae strike and a counter from Fraser MacIntosh saw them edge the match 5-3 in injury time and keep their Cup quest on track.

MacKenzie said: “In the last couple of years we have developed this winning mentality and we just don’t want to lose.

“Nothing is a lost cause any more.”

In the weekend’s other major match, Inveraray surprised everyone to defeat Kyles 3-1, moving to the top of the Orion Group Premiership.
