Shinty: Improving Lovat enjoy cup success

Lovat ended Glen Urquhart’s love affair with the Artemis Macaulay Cup on Saturday but boss Alan MacRae is setting no trophy targets.

The Inverness-shire outfit currently top the Orion Group Premiership and Saturday’s 4-2 victory over holders Glen is another step forward.

However, while critics are tipping Lovat to do something this term, manager MacRae remains cautious.

“It is still early days,” he said. “All we are looking for is improvement. If we have that and a trophy comes on the back of it, it will be gratefully received, of course.”

Martin Mainland, Greg Matheson (2) and Bartlett got the key counters for Lovat.

Elsewhere, in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup, Beauly beat Strathglass 5-2 to progress to the next round.
