Steve McClaren has moved to try and become the next manager of Rangers by making a pitch to the Ibrox board, Olivier Ntcham nets a screamer for France under-21s, and Danny Swanson has questioned the justice system after the killer of his close friend was only jailed for four years.

McClaren makes Rangers pitch

Steve McClaren has tried to sway the mind of the Rangers board by having his representatives send a CV to Ibrox. The ex-England boss is very keen on replacing Pedro Caixinha and has made it known he’s willing to work under budget constraints while trying to improve the club’s fortunes. (The Herald)

Ntcham nets screamer

Olivier Ntcham showed off his shooting prowess on international duty by netting a stunning free-kick. The young midfielder curled home the 25-yard beauty during France under-21s’ 3-0 victory over Bulgaria. (Various)

Swanson slams injustice

Danny Swanson has described the sentence handed down to the killer of his friend Shaun Woodburn as “sickening”. The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was responsible for fatally injuring Shaun on New Years Eve last year, but only given a four-year sentence. (Daily Record)

Mackay bows out

Malky Mackay expressed his pride at Scotland’s performance despite a defeat in what is set to be his only match in charge of the national team. The SFA performance director says he will “return to the day job” after overseeing the 1-0 loss to Netherlands at Pittodrie. Shortly before the friendly, SFA chief executive Stewart Regan confirmed that Mackay would not be considered for the role on a permanent basis as the search for Gordon Strachan’s replacement continues. Jack booed

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack was booed by the home crowd on his return to Pittodrie on Thursday night. The 25-year-old was making his debut for the national side in Scotland’s friendly match against the Netherlands. Starting at right-back, Jack’s every touch was booed in the opening 15 minutes. Mulumbu trains with Killie

Ex-West Brom and PSG midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu is on trial at Kilmarnock. The 30-year-old DR Congo international is a free agent after leaving Norwich City earlier this year. Easton out for four more weeks

St Johnstone defender Brian Easton will be out for a further four weeks as a knee injury becomes more problematic than first expected. The 29-year-old sustained the knock in Saints’ 1-0 defeat to Partick Thistle at the tail end of last month. (Scottish Sun)
