Rose dig in to earn point

Linlithgow Rose 2 Whitburn 2

WHITBURN had the best of the early chances but it was the home side who took the lead with a fine piece of football, writes.

Jordi Virgili set off on a run that took him past a couple of defenders before he released Tommy Coyne down the right flank and his low cross was emphatically dispatched into the net by Stuart McArthur.

The visitors got back into the game with a soft-looking penalty when Scott Wilson was judged to have impeded Colin Leiper as they went for Dolan's free kick. Scott Murphy's well-taken spot kick levelled the score.

Whitburn edged in front with 16 minutes remaining. Scott Gormley met Colin Strickland's cross with a looping header that struck the underside of the bar and dropped into the net.

However the home side dug deep and secured a point with four minutes to go. Stephen Manson's corner picked out Wilson and, although Walker did well to stop the big defender's header, he was powerless to prevent Coyne hammering the rebound home to notch his 25th goal of the season.
