Green is all go as Edinburgh City plot a Highland fling against Clach

EDINBURGH CITY, who reached the fourth round of last season's Scottish Cup where they were beaten by Montrose, embark on another campaign with a first-round tie against Highland League club Clachnacuddin from Inverness at Meadowbank Stadium.

City have had a good record against teams from the north of Scotland in recent seasons and have recorded victories against Wick Academy, Keith, Nairn County and tomorrow's rivals Clachnacuddin after a replay only three seasons ago.

John Green, City's joint manager, travelled to Inverness last weekend to watch City's opponents in action against Inverurie Loco Works. "I was very impressed with Clach, who were 1-0 down with ten minutes to go then scored three goals in six minutes to lead 3-1," said Green. "That's a fair return but they have been scoring a lot of goals. However, they have also been letting them in and that's exactly what happened against Inverurie who scored two late goals to equalise and make the final score 3-3." City have serious concerns in respect of the fitness of left-sided midfield player Dougie Gair.

The Clachnacuddin manager, Ian Polwarth, meanwhile, said: "Our results so far this season have been a bit up and down with a mixture of young players and others who have stuck by the club in difficult times over the past two seasons. We had Edinburgh City watched last Saturday so we know what to expect."

Clach's star striker, Gordon Morrison, is rated 'very doubtful' for tomorrow's game. Admission prices for the match, which kicks off at the standard Scottish Cup time of 3pm, are 6 for adults and 3 for concessions.
