Scott, who is among the next crop of talented youngsters coming through the Scottish Golf ranks, has signed for Texas Tech University and will be heading there at the start of the 2021-22 season.

He will be hoping to enjoy the same success in Lubbock, which sits around 350 miles west of Dallas, as his brother did on a similar scholarship.

In his spell, which is still ongoing after he put a planned switch to the professional ranks this year on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sandy climbed into the top 10 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

He also played in last year’s Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool and is the only Scot in the newly-announced Great Britain & Ireland squad for the 2021 clash at Seminole in Florida in May.

"Calum is one of my favourite kids to recruit," said Greg Sands, the Texas Tech head golf coach, of signing the younger Scott for the ‘Red Raiders’ along with American Seth Bearden and Swede Gustav Andersson.

"He absolutely loves the game of golf and you can tell he is hungry to get better. Calum is from a golfing family, and I know he has learned some of the valuable things from his father and from Sandy.”

Scott won the Scottish Under-16 Boys’ Open Stroke-Play Championship at Fairmont St Andrews in 2017 while his successes this season included shooting a six-under effort at Duff House Royal in the Scottish Junior and sharing top spot in the ‘Battle at Blair’ tournament at Blairgowrie.

“Calum has grown so much physically and mentally over the last couple years and there is no doubt be able to come in and compete at a high level," added Sands of his new recruit.Joining Scott in making that trip across the Atlantic next year is Blairgowrie’s Gregor Graham, another of the up-and-coming Scottish stars.

The 2020 Stephen Gallacher Foundation Trophy winner has accepted an offer of a full golf scholarship at Midland Junior College in Texas, where both Andrew Coltart and Dean Robertson had spells before becoming European Tour winners.
