Wick stretch advantage in Highland League

WICK Academy surged five points clear at the top of the Highland table but only after a slender 1-0 win over bottom club Fort William.

Gary Weir scored the only goal of the game. Nairn County and Keith shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Station Park. Cammy Keith netted the opener for the visitors from the spot after 49 minutes but Conor Gethins hit his 30th goal of the season on 61 minutes to level.

Deveronvale raced into an early 3-0 lead at Lossiemouth with goals from Graeme Watt, John Urquhart and Martin Charlesworth. After the break, Craig Morrison tied up the points for Vale with a penalty.

Brora Rangers beat Inverurie Locos 1-0, Buckie Thistle were 2-1 winners over Rothes, Fraserburgh enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 home victory over Strathspey and Forres and Huntly drew 1-1 at Mosset Park.

In the Highland League Cup first round, Clach beat Cove Rangers 3-2, and Formartine United also progressed after a 2-1 win at Turriff.
