It has been a rollercoaster start to the Scottish Premiership season, with Celtic and Aberdeen trading blow for blow at the top of the division, Rangers struggling in third and Hearts and Hibs propping up the table.
Both St Johnstone and Hearts have hired and fired managers already, with both opting for a change in direction after an underwhelming start, while Dundee United have been one of the surprise packages, losing just once since their promotion from the Scottish Championship.
When it comes to each team’s start to the season, it is quite clear that the ability - or inability - to convert the chances they create is playing a huge role in the league table’s make-up. But how does compare to their rivals across the Scottish Premiership when it comes to a vital statistic that is commonly used across football?
Using popular statistics website FotMob, we rank each team on goals scored vs expected goals for (xG) to see which teams are performing best when it comes to chance conversion.
1. Rangers
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Rangers find themselves underperforming in front of goal. They have scored 12 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season against an XG of 13.9. The worst conversation rate in the division. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group
2. Hearts
Following their vital 4-0 win over St Mirren at the weekend, the Jambos will hope they can kick-start their campaign. They'll need to continue to convert chances as they did against the Paisley outfit though, with the Tynecastle outfit scoring just 10 goals, despite having an xG of 11.2 this season. | SNS Group
3. Hibs
Despite being bottom of the table, Hibs are not the worst at converting chances - though they are underperforming. The Easter Road outfit have scored eight goals this season against an xG of 8.8. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group
4. Kilmarnock
They've managed to drag themselves away from the foot of the table with two wins from the last two games, but Derek McInnes side should have almost one extra goal this season. They have scored 10 times from an xG of 10.9. | SNS Group
