Scottish Cup roundup: Highland leaguers Deveronvale send Berwick home to think again

DEVERONVALE produced the shock of the second round of the Scottish Cup with an incredible 4-0 win over Berwick Rangers of the Third Division thanks to goals from Kris Duncan, Scott Fraser, Chris Blackhall and Mike McKenzie.

Gala Fairydean were emphatic 5-2 winners over Golspie Sutherland, with Jack Hay notching a hat-trick for the hosts. Craig Livingstone also scored a double for Gala while the visitors gave their fans something to cheer with strikes from Shaun Kerr and Gavin Nicholson.

Former Aberdeen striker Stephen Tarditi netted a double to help Bo’ness United to a 2-1 win over Whitehill Welfare, for whom Andrew Kidd scored from the spot.

David Gillies scored two for Auchinleck Talbot who booked their place in the third round with a 8-1 triumph over Threave Rovers.

Also on target for the free-scoring Ayrshire side were Keir Milliken, Andy Leishman, Colin Spence, Michael McCann, Gordon Pope and James Latta. Andrew Donley did register a scant consolation for Rovers, who had Daniel Dunglinson ordered off in the closing stages to compound the misery.

Queen’s Park emerged as convincing 3-0 victors at Huntly courtesy of goals from Jamie Longworth, Sean Burns and Craig Smith.

Martin Bavidge scored both goals for Peterhead in a comfortable 2-0 success over Nairn County while Fraserburgh earned a 0-0 draw against Elgin for whom David Niven was dismissed.

Steve Masterton’s 68th-minute equaliser salvaged a 2-2 draw for Alloa against Annan at Recreation Park.

Kevin Cawley had given Alloa an early lead but David Cox put the visitors on level terms in the 36th minute. Peter Watson’s 54th-minute strike put the league leaders in front before Masterton’s powerful finish secured a replay for off-colour Alloa.

Sean Pierce’s goal secured a 2-1 win for Montrose against Clyde. The Bully Wee had made the perfect start when John Neill opened the scoring with a crisp finish in the 19th minute.

However, Paul Lunan quickly restored parity four minutes later for the Gable Endies before Pierce’s priceless winner.

Clachnacuddin were held to a 1-1 draw by Inverurie Locos for whom John Maitland scored a 71st-minute leveller. Clach had taken a first-half lead through Mark Dougal but both sides will have to do it all again.

John Ferguson scored a dramatic late winner in Vale of Leithen’s 3-2 win over Cove Rangers. Goals from Scott Moffat and Jordan Hall had put the hosts two ahead before Richie Singer pulled one back before the interval. Substitute Kevin Webster thought he had earned a replay with his 90th-minute equaliser for Cove before Ferguson struck deep into added time.

New signing Russell Latapy could not inspire Edinburgh City as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Meadowbank against Irvine Meadow for whom David McGeown scored a 59th-minute winning goal.

Spartans beat Culter 2-0 thanks to goals from Gavin Malin and Jordan Finnie while the home side had Ross Crosbie sent off, while a Cammy Keith penalty was enough for Keith to prevail 1-0 at Wick Academy.
