Rangers transfers: Scotland international signs, major departure mooted, second Morrocan linked

The latest transfer news and speculation around Ibrox

Scotland international signs

Rangers have completed the signing of Scotland international goalkeeper Liam Kelly on a two-year deal. The 28-year-old rejoins the club he left in 2018 on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Motherwell. Kelly, who was named in Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad in Germany this summer, will provide competition for number one Jack Butland. “It is unbelievable to be back at Rangers, when I left, I probably never thought I would be back, but I am so delighted to be here. I know the size of the club, I spent 14 years here, so it is a great feeling, and I am looking forward to the new challenge." Manager Philippe Clement added: “I am delighted we have been able to secure the signing of Liam. We have had some really positive conversations, and he is a goalkeeper with experience in Scotland and in the Scottish Premiership which will be valuable for our squad.

Reports linking Rangers captain James Tavernier with a move to Saudi Arabia are refusing to go away with one outlet now claiming that the right-back has accepted an offer to reunite with former manager Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq. Tavernier has been a pivotal figure at Ibrox over the past nine years, making 447 appearances and scoring 123 goals, and skippered the side to the Scottish Premiership title under Gerrard in 2020-21. The 32-year-old is in line for a testimonial at Rangers if he sees out his current contract, which expires in 2026. However, Football Insider say that a move to the Saudi Pro League to link up with Gerrard is now firmly on the cards after reaching agreement on a bumper contract offer. The report states that no agreement is in place between Rangers and Al-Ettifaq but a deal is likely to be finalised that will bring Tavernier's time at Ibrox to an end.

Rangers are expected to complete the signing of striker Hamza Igamane in the coming days. He is set to join the Ibrox side from Moroccan club AS Far Rabat where he scored seven goals and provided six assists in 20 appearances this season. He appears not to be the only Moroccan on the club's radar though amid reports that Rangers are also interested in Excelsior winger Couhaib Driouech. The 22-year-old is coming off the back of an impressive season in the Eredivisie after scoring eight and assisting eight in 30 appearances. Dutch journalist Mounir Boualin says there is 'interest' from Gers in signing the player who has been capped nine times by Morocco at U23 level. His contract is up next summer and it seems his club are open to selling him.
