Rangers transfer window moves may depend on Galatasaray Europa League result, warns manager Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard wants to add a midfielder to his Rangers squad – but believes advancing in Europe will have a big influence on his transfer market activity before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Ibrox boss has been consistent in his belief that Rangers need another midfielder if they are to compete on four fronts - but is still waiting for the green light from chairman Douglas Park to make his move.

Reports have suggested a move for Bongani Zungu may be back on, but Gerrard said: "I think I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need. But I also respect the board's position in the current climate and the situation that we're in.

"I do think that depending on whether we qualify or not would depend on what we try and do in the final days.

"But I think that's a question for people who are above me at the club. I can't really answer that question right now but I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need to keep moving forward, to make sure that we don't stand still."

Gerrard's squad has been hit by a number of injuries in recent weeks, but while Ryan Jack and Brandon Barker have given the boss a boost ahead of facing the Turkish giants after reporting back to training, there is more bad news after Cedric Itten suffered a knock in training.

Galatasary meet Rangers in the Europa League play-off round tomorrow night. Kick off at Ibrox is 7.45pm.
