Last week, The Scotsman revealed the Premiership league leaders had revived their interest in the player but faced competition from around Europe, including Greek giants Olympiacos.

According reports in France, Rangers are close to agreeing a fee with Amiens for the 27-year-old.

Zungu has been brought back into the fold by the Ligue 2 side who were relegated from the top flight last season. He started the weekend’s defeat to Caen having made a substitute appearance the previous week.

The combative midfielder, who has 24 caps for South Africa, was reported to have had issues with his medical when Rangers originally tried to sign him. However, it is believed it was other parts of the deal which were an issue.
