Rangers fans react to Sydney Super Cup exit - Hamburg friendly, decent Ibrox scran, 500 tennis balls for sale

Rangers fans welcomed the club’s decision to pull out of the controversial Sydney Super Cup friendly tournament.

The Ibrox club had agreed to take part in the event to be held in November when the Scottish Premiership breaks for the World Cup. They would have played Western Sydney Wanderers before facing Celtic in the first ever Old Firm game to be played outside of the UK.

Rangers released a statement on Thursday confirming they were no longer taking part.

@gsdavo1975: “As an Aussie, I'm disappointed I won't be able to see my team play my local A-league team the @wswanderersfc. As a bluenose, I'm ecstatic that we're not in a friendly tournament.”

@thisisibrox: “Wonder what the obligations were? Maybe don't bill as Ange's homecoming? Anyway, a sensible, if somewhat delayed decision. Learn your lesson. Now Sunday beckons.”

@1872RCK: “Announce @HSV_English instead.”

@JeffH1960: “Well done for eventually listening to your 'customers' Rangers. You can dress it up how you please, but this was more down to tennis balls than dollar bills. Okay, all eyes on Sunday now please.

@cjnovo992: “That's a shame, sounded like such a good, well thought out idea as well.”

@SG68RFC: “Don't ever underestimate the power of your supporters @RangersFC This was the worst of the worst nonsense I'd ever seen in all my life as a Gers fan.

@StSpiersy: “The correct decision, finally. Can we all move on now? Please everyone. There's a lot to talk about but let's leave it till after the season.”

@RFFBS: “Now get us some decent scran inside Ibrox.”

@MattATTurvey: “It may be disappointing my favourite football team from the other side of the world, won't be playing a 12 hour drive away for me, however this is the right outcome after a series of not thought out events from all involved.”

@GarryCarmody: “I’m glad and hopefully it’s a time for the board to reassess their relationship with fans. Even now we’re seeing nonsense to justify pulling out and not “we listened to fans”. Sydney Cup was the breaking point, we’ll end up back here if poor relations aren’t addressed.”

@mox1872: “The right decision. On a totally unrelated note, I now have 500 tennis balls (unused) for sale. DM me with offers.”
