Rangers talent reflects on whirlwind summer, why he pushed for transfer and makes Ibrox vow

Rangers youngster ready to hit the ground running after World Cup experience with Scotland

Rangers rising star Findlay Curtis has opened up about the driving force behind his push for a move in the winter transfer window as he reflected on a whirlwind last few months.

Curtis, 20, enters the new season with Rangers in a confident mood following an impressive six-month loan spell at Kilmarnock, where he scored six goals in 14 appearances to help the Rugby Park outfit avoid relegation from the Scottish Premiership, earning a call-up to the Scotland World Cup squad in the process.

Having been restricted to a bit part role at Ibrox in the first half of last season, Curtis now believes he’s shown what he can do given regular game time, and wants to transfer his form at Kilmarnock to Rangers as they look to push for the league title under new head coach Derek McInnes.

“It has been unbelievable,” Curtis told RangersTV. “From January to now, going on loan to Killie, doing really well at Killie - I can't thank them enough for what they've done for me. All the staff out there, all the boys, credit to them because it is quite daunting going away from a big club like this, you need to relish it. I've done really well down there, and I couldn't thank Neil [McCann], Doddsy [Billy Dodds] and all the players enough. I wish them all the best for the season.

“You can't really sit on a bench at this age, you need to go out and show your talent. I did push for a loan, it was the best thing for me. If you do well, it'll stand you in good stead, but even if you do bad you get those learning experiences. I've done really well, scored good goals and I can't wait to get going this season.

“I've always wanted to play football, no matter where it is. At this age, you love playing. I love getting goals and assists, that's who I am. You need to be confident in yourself, and I'm certainly showing that. It was emotional leaving [Kilmarnock], but I want to showcase my talent at Rangers.”

Curtis also reflected on his experience of playing for Scotland at the World Cup this summer. The teenager was a surprise name in Steve Clarke’s squad for the pre-tournament friendlies against Japan and Ivory Coast in March, but did enough to convince the former national team boss he deserved a spot in the 26-man squad list for the tournament.

Coming off the bench late during the group stage games against Haiti and Brazil, the Ibrox youngster is desperate to be involved in the international set-up on a regular basis in the years ahead as Scotland look to appoint a new head coach in the coming weeks.

“You just need to live in the moment, “ said Curtis. “I've relished it, it was some experience over there in America and hopefully there's many more to come. It's my first major tournament, going to the Euros in 2028, and the World Cup in 2030, I've had that experience and you look to go further, and get though the group - that's the main aim now. It's just about enjoying my football at Rangers, and seeing what comes.

“Coming on against Brazil and Haiti, you just can't believe all your family and friends are going to be watching at home. So I was just delighted to come on. A shame the results didn't go our way, but we'll be back definitely. My Mum came over, my Dad, my brother and sister and my girlfriend. It was nice. From the age of six, my Mum and Dad have been driving me to Murray Park and back to the house, back to Ibrox, then back to the house. I'm so grateful to have them in my life, and I think all credit goes to them.”
