Gerrard wanted the player to play first-team football, something which couldn't be guaranteed at Ibrox on a regular basis this season.

He said: "It's a wonderful opportunity for him to go get a lot of football and develop. Fair play to him taking that challenge on, going abroad to a different style of football.

"NAC are a big club with a big support. They play the right way, with the ball on the floor.

"They should challenge for the league so that will be good for Glenn's development and give him good preparation for 12 months' time when he comes back."

Signed from Norwich last year, the wideman made 28 appearances last term.

He was close to leaving for Doncaster Rovers ealrier in the summer with Coventry City also reportedly showing an interest.
