McCoist stands behind ‘Bomber’ Brown

THE snippets might now be termed Bombershells. But Ally McCoist has no concerns over how he responded to them.

John Brown stated on radio this week that he fully informed the Rangers manager and Walter Smith of what lay behind his strident claims, on the steps of Ibrox last June, that supposed outgoing owner Craig Whyte was involved in Charles Green’s purchase of the assets of the old Rangers, as liquidation for that beckoned.

McCoist is fully supportive of Brown over a stance that the now Dundee manager claims has “come to fruition” with Green having resigned as Rangers chief executive in the wake of the club’s decision to set up an independent investigation into Whyte’s links to Green’s Sevco 5088/Sevco Scotland acquisition last June.

“It’s far easier fighting in the inside I think, than it is fighting on the outside,” says McCoist. “John just about spelled out to me what was going to happen, to be fair. John is very forthright and opinionated. He was just worried about the club, like the rest of us. I think a lot of people maybe dismissed John’s views because the way he was putting them across wasn’t the norm.

“I did feel there were probably a lot of people who felt he wasn’t talking sense and was barking up the wrong tree. But it didn’t alter my opinion of John. Even to this day, if it is proved he got it wrong and was barking up the wrong tree, I certainly wouldn’t criticise him for coming out and saying it because he believed it. He believed it and he believed what he was doing was to the benefit of the supporters.”
