Former Hearts striker departs after club confirm release

Ex-Tynecastle loanee Ben Woodburn is a free agent after EFL Championship outfit Preston North End confirmed he would not be offered a new deal at Deepdale.

The former Liverpool academy player spent the 2021-2022 season on loan with the Jambos but scored just three league goals in 28 games as he struggled to adapt to the Scottish Premiership. Following his spell in Edinburgh, the 24-year-old moved on a permanent deal to the English second tier with Preston and scored on his debut in a 2-1 friendly against win Hearts.

Sheffield United have confirmed ex-Gers goalkeeper Wesley Foderingham is one of five players to depart the club following their relegation from the English top tier. Now 33, he featured a total of 86 times for the Yorkshire club after joining them from Rangers in 2020 but has not been offered a deal to stay at Bramall Lane.

Midfielder Greg Docherty is another ex-Ibrox man that finds himself in search of another club. Hull City announced the 27-year-old would not be offered a new contract by the Tigers earlier this week. The Milngavie born player was signed by Rangers in January 2018 but struggled to break into the Ibrox first team before taking in loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Hibs. He made a permanent move to Hull in 2020, where he won promotion from the English third tier in his debut season.

Martyn Waghorn completes the trio of former Rangers men who have joined the free agent list after Derby County confirmed the striker would not be offered an extension to the deal he signed last summer.
