The pair signed pre-contracts with Rangers back in January but despite already travelling up to Glasgow to begin life north of the border, they were prohibited from appearing for their new side by former club Accrington.

Since both players are under the age of 23, Accrington were due compensation for the pair. The Lancashire club became enraged when Rangers weren’t forthcoming with the cash, a disagreement that Rangers insisted was the fault of Accrington by failing to provide them with the “necessary detail”.

The League Two side responded by denying Windass and Crooks the chance to train with their new club as they were still officially Accrington players until their contracts expired on 30 June.

Rather than let the dispute go to a tribunal, it now appears that both clubs have come to an agreement over the pair, who’ll compete for a place in the Rangers midfield next season.
