James Vaughan to Rangers?

FORMER Everton striker James Vaughan has emerged as a surprise target for Rangers, despite Birmingham taking up an option to sign him until summer 2017 from Huddersfield.

Vaughan has had spells at Leicester, Crystal Palace, Norwich and Birmingham, and despite reports he would prefer to remain in England, could continue negotiations with the Ibrox club.

Liverpool ‘baffled’ by Ings to Rangers rumours

LIVERPOOL have said they are ‘baffled’ by reports linking striker Danny Ings with a loan or permanent move to Ibrox.

Rangers were linked with the former Burnley forward last week but Anfield chiefs do not expect Ings to be going anywhere, with Jurgen Klopp a big fan of the English striker.

Ings is expected to compete with Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge as Liverpool’s first-choice striker next season. (Liverpool Echo)

Celtic eye Gregory

CELTIC have reportedly made enquiries about the availability of Millwall striker Lee Gregory.

The Sheffield-born forward, who started his career at Staveley Miners Welfare before moving onto Mansfield Town, Glapwell, Harrogate and Halifax, signed a three-year deal with Millwall in June 2014, and has so far hit 26 goals in 78 games for the Lions.

He partnered Jamie Vardy up front at Halifax, and has attracted attention from Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers. (Daily Mail)

The Canaries are said to have agreed a £2 million deal with Reading for the 21-year-old, who was also being watched by Celtic and Aston Villa.

Reported Rangers target heading for Dons trial

A UGANDAN international reportedly heading for Ibrox will instead be travelling to Pittodrie for a trial.

Khalid Aucho, currently with Kenyan outfit Gor Mahia, had apparently claimed he was heading to Rangers - but a war of words between the player’s agent and Gor Mahia saw any move cast into doubt.

But now the defensive midfielder is reportedly heading for Aberdeen, and said: “I read a lot about Rangers but the truth of the matter is that I have been invited by Aberdeen and not Rangers. I have applied for the visa and am just waiting to get it before I travel to Scotland for my trials.” (Various)

United eye Newcastle midfielder

DUNDEE United are keen on bringing Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff to Tannadice - but the youngster’s ability could see Rafa Benitez block any loan move for the 18-year-old.

The Magpies boss reportedly wants to run the rule over Longstaff in pre-season training, but United will be hopeful that they could still land Longstaff on loan. (The Courier)

Lennon to give Harris and Stanton a chance

NEIL Lennon intends to give Alex Harris and Sam Stanton a chance to revive their Hibs careers.

The duo found themselves cast as peripheral figures under Alan Stubbs and it looked like their days at Easter Road might be numbered after they were sent out on loan.

However, Lennon recalls seeing both Harris and Stanton make a big impact when they first broke into the Hibs first team when he was still in charge of Celtic.

“I’ll definitely be having a look at Sam and Alex when they come back,” Lennon SAID. “They probably haven’t realised the potential they showed a couple of years ago but there’s plenty of scope in the two of them.” (Evening News)

Neilson eyes European run

ROBBIE Neilson is targeting what he believes would be a “phenomenal” achievement for Hearts by reaching the group stage of the Europa League this season.

The Tynecastle club are eagerly awaiting today’s draw at Uefa headquarters in Nyon for the first and second qualifying rounds of the tournament.

“We want to try to get into the group stages, as all teams do. It would be phenomenal to get there, to be honest with you, especially when you look at the different budgets of teams across Europe.” (The Scotsman)
