Scott McTominay and Napoli suffer shock loss amid transfer speculation as Scotland duo land win

Fenerbahce reported to be keen on Scotland midfielder

Napoli and Scott McTominay suffered an early blow in their Serie A title chase after going down 2-1 at home to Como - amid speculation that the Scotland internationalist is wanted by Fenerbahce.

In what was new Napoli head coach Max Allegri’s first competitive home match since taking over from Antonio Conte this summer, it was Como who took all three points back to northern Italy.

Martin Baturina was the hero for Cesc Fabregas’ Como side, with the Croatian opening the scoring and then setting Anastasios Douvikas either side of Rasmus Hojlund’s goal for Napoli in what was a lively first half.

Napoli pressed for a leveller after the break, although McTominay - who was one of the main men under Conte for the past two seasons - was replaced after just 56 minutes for Kevin de Bruyne as part of a triple substitution. Fellow Scotland internationalist Billy Gilmour was an unused substitute.

McTominay has been the darling of the Napoli support for the past two years after joining from Manchester United in 2024. He drove them to the Scudetto in his first season at the club, but reports in Turkey claim that Fenerbahce are keen on making a move for the player.

McTominay is contracted to Napoli until the summer of 2028 and it would take a sizeable bid for Napoli to even consider selling him.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Scotland duo Josh Doig and Kieron Bowie started for Sassuolo as they won 2-1 at home to Torino, for whom Scottish striker Che Adams also played. Their compatriot Lennon Miller came on as a substitute as Udinese won 3-2 away at Monza.

Lewis Ferguson’s Bologna are away to Atalanta on Monday evening.
