Celtic keen on PSV midfielder

Celtic have made a bid of £3.4 million for PSV Eindhoven’s teenage midfielder Joel van den Berg, according to multiple reports.

Van den Berg was omitted from PSV Under-21’s squad over the weekend as transfer negotiations heated up, with the 19-year-old holding admirers within the Celtic recruitment team. It is understood talks between all parties have progressed over the weekend.

Celtic are also looking for a new left-back to compete with Kieran Tierney, with manager Martin O’Neill admitting last week that the Scottish defender cannot play every game.

The Scottish champions have already made four signings this season by bringing in forwards Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran, winger Haissem Hassan and midfielder Mika Baur.

Gassama wanted by former boss

Former Rangers boss Danny Rohl is keen on reuniting with Ibrox winger Djeidi Gassama, according to reports in Germany.

Rohl managed Gassama last season and his RB Salzburg outfit have emerged as another suitor for the French winger, who is also admired by Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

Gassama’s situation is set to go right to the wire before the window closes, although his manager Derek McInnes was full of praise for his performance against Aberdeen in 1-0 win at Pittodrie.

McInnes labelled his display “first class”, with the 22-year-old winning the penalty that led to Lawrence Shankland’s winner.

McInnes’ update on Raskin and Kelsy

Rangers have been strongly linked with striker Kevin Kelsy from Portland Timbers, while Belgium midfielder Nicolas Raskin was absent again against Aberdeen amid ongoing speculation about his future.

After the match McInnes said: “In terms of outs, I don’t think there’s anything imminent on that. There’s certainly not been any offers for Nico.

“Obviously, it’s normally the last couple of days of the window when things really crank up, so we need to be primed for that.

“We are really keen to get a striker in that we want.”

Hibs still in the hunt

Hibs head coach David Gray says the club are still looking for new players but don’t want to lose any more from the squad.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Dundee on Sunday, Gray commented: “We're getting very close to the end of this window now, so I would expect there to be speculation. As always, we are actively looking, we're actively being ready for whatever comes.

“But at this moment in time, I'm certainly not looking to lose anybody. But at the same time, everyone's got valuations and if it's the right thing for everybody involved, who knows.

“But whilst that window's open, you need to be ready and we certainly will be."

St Mirren make double signing

St Mirren have added two new players to their squad. Defender Louis Jackson, 20, has joined from Manchester United on a two-year deal, with the club holding the option of a further 12 months.

Forward Nikolas Agrafiotis, 26, has also joined the club on a three-year deal, coming in from German third division side Wehen Wiesbaden.

The Buddies drew 3-3 with Motherwell on Sunday. “I think it shows how far we’ve come as well as a group that we are disappointed with a point,” said their manager Craig McLeish. “You look at Motherwell celebrating a draw the way they do. It hurts right now (not to win), but it’s fine margins in football.”
