Steve Clarke leads Scotland into another vital international and it is a familiar foe – Israel – in wait at sold out Hampden.

Last month’s wins over Moldova and Austria not only ensured Scotland occupy second spot in the World Cup qualifying section and ruled Grant Hanley out through suspension, it also sparked a national ticket rush for this evening's match.

There’s now no briefs left so the only way to keep up with the game for those not at the National Stadium in Mount Florida, is on TV, radio or here at The Scotsman’s live blog.

Scotland 3-2 Israel: How it Happened

Key Events

  • Scotland move four points clear of Israel in second with three games - and nine points - still to play for
  • SCOTLAND 3 (McGinn 28, Dykes 62, McTominay 90+3) ISRAEL 2 (Zahavi 5, Dabbur 31)
  • Stunning free-kick from playmaker silences Hampden after five minutes. McGinn curls in a leveller but Dabbur responds almost immediately
  • Lyndon Dykes penalty saved before half-time but striker nets VAR-assisted goal in second half but McTominay wins it late
  • SCOTLAND: Gordon, Patterson, Hendry, Tierney, McTominay, Robertson, McGinn, Gilmour, McGregor, Adams, Dykes.

Israel have a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the box after Jack Hendry bundled over Zahavi

Nightmare for Scotland - great set-piece from Eran Zahavi flies by Craig Gordon to give the visitors an early lead.

Steve Clarke identified him as a danger pre-match - and he didn’t take long to fulfil that prophecy.

It’s a beautiful strike, it really is. He gets his foot around it and the goalkeeper has no chance.

Scotland seek an equaliser and Billy Gilmour springs a pass through for Che Adams but it’s well defended.

Great work from Lyndon Dykes. Takes a slippery ball down well on his chest after a long pass from the defence, the QPR forward twists, turns and shoots - perhaps a little more tamely than he’d like - and Marciano blocks with his knees.

Manus Dabbur is down is some pain after a midfield collision with Scott McTominay.

Lyndon Dykes is penalised, harshly, for winning an aerial duel with Arau which also halts a Scotland attack into the box.

After Dabbur’s injury time-out and that incident, Hampden expresses collective displeasure...

The ball is bouncing high when shelled forward long, but Scotland have looked at their most threatening playing passes low, usually via Gilmour, and moving the ball quickly.

It happened in the first minute, then when Gilmour released Adams and though Dykes is aerially dominant, it’s definitely looking like the way to go after the opening exchanges.

Also, the rain.

Israel’s white tops are increasingly transparent as it pours on the south side of Glasgow.

John McGinn fires in a curling equaliser!!

We’ve not even recovered from the jump about to McGinn’s goal and Munas Dabbur has restored Israel’s lead with a scrambled close-range effort at the back-post
