5. Stephen O'Donnell - 6
Saw plenty of the ball early on, and that isn’t necessarily how Scotland would have wanted the encounter to pan out. His usual industry on show, but also his inescapable limitations. Photo: Andy Buchanan - Pool
6. Scott McTominay - 5
Sift through the key moments of an excruciating afternoon and there will be little to alight on moments involving the Manchester United midfielder. He was neither fish nor fowl, really, and more is expected and required of the 22-year-old, who dropped into the back three when Hendry was subbed. Photo: Andy Buchanan - Pool
7. Stuart Armstrong - 4
Struggled to justify the faith shown in him by Clarke, with the Southampton man effectively fielded ahead of Callum McGregor. A more attacking option than his former Celtic team-mate, he struggled to make anything happen in the final third and didn’t link particularly well defensively. Photo: Stu Forster
8. John McGinn - 6
As was a given, he grafted away and more than held his own physically. A lack of composure at times let him down, though, and for a player who is the team’s main goal threat, he never looked like adding to his 10 strikes at this level. Photo: LEE SMITH
